The NFT Market in 2026: Dead, or Transforming?

The drop in NFT volumes, the projects that survived, and where the market is heading.

2026-04-287 min read

A lot has changed since the "everything is an NFT" mania of 2021. Global NFT trading volume fell from $25 billion in 2022 to about $5 billion in 2024. Many collections lost 90% or more of their value. But calling NFTs dead is premature; the market is breaking its shell and reshaping itself.

Where the Losses Are

  • PFP (profile picture) collections: BAYC floor dropped from 150 ETH to 12 ETH. Even CryptoPunks are far below their peak.
  • Generative art: Most Art Blocks projects lost 95%+ of value.
  • Play-to-earn: Token economies of projects like Axie Infinity collapsed.

Segments Surviving or Growing

Utility NFTs: Not just pictures, but real utility. Pudgy Penguins, for example, is standing thanks to toy licensing and community governance.

Music NFTs: Artists connect directly with collectors without labels. Platforms like Sound.xyz and Catalog are quietly growing.

RWA (Real-World Assets): Real estate, art, and watch certificates are being tokenized as NFTs. This segment reached $8 billion in 2025.

In-game assets: AAA games on networks like Immutable and Ronin use NFTs as invisible infrastructure.

Market Dynamics

Blur: Shook OpenSea's throne; with a pro-trader interface and token incentives it captured about 60% of Ethereum NFT volume.

Solana NFTs: Collections like Mad Lads and Tensorians keep the Solana ecosystem alive. Fees are much lower than on Ethereum.

Base: Coinbase's L2 hosts a small but growing art-NFT scene.

Lessons for Investors

  1. Community over speculation. Projects with active communities and real use cases survive.
  2. Floor prices are misleading. In illiquid collections, a single sale can crash the floor.
  3. Question the "blue chip" myth. Even BAYC fell 90%. There is no "safe" bet in crypto art.
  4. Mind the fees. 2-2.5% marketplace commissions plus gas eat margins fast.

Conclusion

The NFT market is alive as an infrastructure and evolving; as an investment it remains extremely risky. USD Euro 360's NFT floors tab provides live data for popular collections — but research the community, roadmap, and tokenomics deeply before stepping in.
